The Greg Jerlow Scholarship is an organization founded by individuals touched by the generosity of Greg Jerlow and committed to inspiring young people to develop successful characteristics and achieve their full potential. To accomplish this purpose, The Greg Jerlow Scholarship has embarked on a fund raising campaign to establish a principal investment of at least $20,000 from which profits and interest will support an annual college scholarship benefiting a Kindred High School senior. Our hope is that the spirit of this organization itself, the life and memory of a great coach and teacher, and the goodwill from those inspired by Greg Jerlow will provoke recipients to accomplish their goals and encourage others to do the same.
Greg Jerlow, former athletic director and coach at Kindred High School, passed away May 1, 2001, following a long and difficult battle with cancer. He led a decorated life, full of the love and spirit manifest in the permanent smile adorned on his face. During his life, he touched the lives of many students, athletes, coaches, peers and anyone who had the pleasure of getting to know him. As an athlete, Greg excelled at football, basketball, and baseball while at Lakefield High School, in southern Minnesota and went on to start as quarterback at Moorhead State University, now Minnesota State University-Moorhead. In 1978, he began his teaching and coaching career at Kindred High School. Throughout his career Greg taught science, health, and physical education, and acted as the school's athletic director, head football coach, and boy's golf coach. During his early times at Kindred, he briefly coached wrestling and basketball. He was respected, loved, and admired by the entire Kindred Community and his memory has been codified with the dedication of the football field in his name.
